In ISM this week, the other half of the class presented their research presentations. While they were presenting, I had two days to work on getting caught up. In these extra classes, I decided to work on research assessments seven and eight. For my seventh research assessment, I researched what a music business degree has to offer, since I am planning to major in music business. I learned that there are a select number of schools in the United States that offer a music business degree. Something I read at the beginning of the article that I found to be interesting was that companies in the industry are more likely to hire somebody who attended a well known school that provides a music business degree. I think that through these music business classes, students know more about the ins and outs of the music industry, therefore have more knowledge when going into a job than someone who has a marketing or advertising background. Colleges that offer music business degrees also offer students with internship experiences where they have the opportunity to gain experience in the industry as well. The next research assessment I completed was over an article titled “How Ticketmaster Plans to Check Your Vaccine Status for Concerts.” This article was published soon after a potential vaccine for Covid was announced. The article states that Ticketmaster plans to create a system to ensure fans have gotten a vaccine or had a Covid test within 24-48 hours of a concert in order to attend the show. Although this plan has not yet been put into place, I believe that it will be a great way to start allowing for larger crowds at live events. I enjoyed reading both articles this week, and I look forward to completing more research as well as working on my original work within the next few weeks.
