In ISM this week, I went on my first mentor visit. Ms. O’Neal and I met over Zoom and talked about the different components of having a mentor in ISM, reviewed part of the handbook, talked about an idea for my final product, and talked about my plans for college and studying music business. When we started talking, Ms. O’Neal told me about an idea that she had for my final product. For this project, I will be able to learn about the “life of a show.” Beginning with the initial announcement of a show, I will learn how to engage the audience in order to increase ticket sales, how to keep an audience engaged and looking forward to the show, and finally, I will learn what it is like on the day of the concert. I have attended many concerts at the American Airlines Center, so I am looking forward to learning more about what it is like from an employee’s perspective rather than as a fan. Ms. O’Neal also asked me about college, and I told her that I am attending Belmont University. She said that she has a couple of friends who have graduated from Belmont, and sent me their contact information. I am hoping to get in touch with them soon to learn more about their experiences in the music industry as well as at Belmont. I am looking forward to learning more throughout my mentor visits in the upcoming weeks, and beginning to work on my final project.
