In ISM this week, I worked on two assessments. The first assessment I worked on was about my second interview. I wrote about what I learned, and reflected on how I will use the information I gained from our conversation for ISM in the future. One thing that stood out to me during my interview was when we started talking about why venues have not started to open up with a lower capacity. The person I was interviewing told me that venues pay the artist that is performing before the show even takes place. Then, the venue has to make that money back through ticket sales. If the venue can not sell as many tickets, they will not make as much money back. Instead of making money off of these shows with less capacity, they would be losing money. Then, I started to work on my research assessment. One thing that has been brought up repeatedly during all of my interviews and previous research, is how important it is to make connections in the music industry. Thus, I decided to research how to make these connections, and why they are so important for success in the industry. I learned how connections are different compared to contacts. Connections are when you connect with somebody on more of a personal level, while a contact is somebody you have met once or twice and are friendly with. Connections are important because both people have something to offer, and both benefit from the relationship. I enjoyed the opportunity to further my knowledge in the music industry this week, and I hope to continue to research and participate in more interviews in the future.
